JB Music, in cooperation with Myx, recently held the first Musikhero music camp at Hotel Elizabeth in Baguio City that had celebrity musicians teach, jam, and share valuable time with 75 talented young musicians.
After the whole day auditions at the Trinoma that enabled the ju
dges to choose the top 75 musicians (25 drummers, 25 guitar players, and 25 bassists) from the 400 that participated, the finalists were lodged at the luxurious hotel in the city of pines for 3 days to experience a music camp like no other – eat, sleep, jam, and train with the best local celebrity musicians and share experiences with their fellow students.
The celebrity music “deans” were practically the who’s who of pinoy rock: The Dawn, Rivermaya, Louie Talan (Razorback), Chickoy Pura (The Jerks), Vic Mercado (Bamboo), Ernie Severino (Side A), Mally Paraguya (POT), Jun Regalado (drum legend), Jun Lopito (guitar legend), Mike Alba (ace drummer), and pinoy rock legend himself, Pepe Smith.
Aside from the good food and accommodations, the camp had the students brush up on their sight reading skills and music theories. They also got to know valuable insights on work experiences from the mentors. More importantly, they get to share the stage with their idols through the various jams and workshops that the camp opened up for them.
On the last day, the camp deans chose the top drummers, guitar players, and bassists who will get the chance to fly to the United Kingdom to play various shows including the London International Music Festival. The top drummers were Marco “Otep” Concepcion and Chuck Menor; top bassists were Burn Hardt Cuevas and Edward Reformina; while the top guitar players were Julius Traquena and Mike Bewer. Only one player from each category will ultimately be chosen to be further decided in the coming days by the mentors and organizers.
